Nothing projects a football player’s ability to perform at the highest professional level quite like a cone-to-cone sprint in his underwear.
Enter the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, where 330 of the country’s best college football players converge for their first encounters with NFL franchises ahead of the draft.
Whether and how much the Combine’s events matter is up for constant debate, but we doubt Byron Jones would have been drafted in the first round in 2015 without his Combine world-record broad jump. Physical attributes, though just one piece of the puzzle that is a player’s pre-draft evaluation, can’t hurt.
“That’s a fair statement,” was Gettleman’s response, though he didn’t say when that pick would occur. The most popular choice is LSU running back Leonard Fournette when the Panthers are on the clock with the eighth overall pick.
The Panthers need a running back to take over for oft-injured Jonathan Stewart, who will be 30 later this month. Gettleman had some pretty complimentary things to say about Fournette.
“Big running backs are nice,” Gettleman said when asked about the 240-pound running back who ran for 3,830 yards and 40 touchdowns in three seasons at LSU. “They tend to run people over better than 180-pound running backs. But this is a deep group, we know that. And it’ll be interesting to see how the whole process plays out, because we’re really just halfway through it. You’ve got to evaluate the film and Cheap Jordan Jerseys China get a picture of every individual running back. Then you talk about “fit” and then Cheap Knicks Jerseys we go from there.”
